Leamington Dairy Factory History
The Leaminton Factory was built in 1902 by Mr Hogan for 151 pounds. The Leamington Dairy factory was on the north east side of the present building. It has been suggested that the present building that we see today was originally the old Leamington Cheese factory.
After it was used by J.D.Wallace (unsure what the purpose was for)
Ross Todd Motors took it over in 1947.
History of Cambridge Community Menzshed
The Menzshed movement in New Zealand was set up to provide a place for men to enjoy each other’s company, have a laugh, share experiences, learn new skills, help the community, and develop friendships by working on practical tasks individually (personal projects) or as a group (for the shed or community).
The first Cambridge Community Menzshed was established in 2015, and became the Menzshed NZ Association's 100th shed. It was made up of a small team of volunteers who worked tirelessly organising the fit-out of the shed on the premises of Resthaven Village Centre - they were Alan Luxton, Eric Hill and Dave Callaghan.
All the equipment at the start was donated. Alan Luxton started it off with his donation of tools and machinery, followed by Colin and Dawn Monks, Ross and Jean Scarlett and the Callaghan family, and Cambridge's Jointwood Limited generously providing free timber."
As more donations of equipment came in double ups or equipment that wasnt as practical to use within the shed was sold off and these funds help purchase new needed equipment.
The present Cambridge Community Menzshed was established by resolution at a general meeting on 18th November 2023.
We are affiliated to Menzshed New Zealand and are an incorporated society, number 50197235 and registered charity, number CC62000.
We have enjoyed the support of the Council and the local business community since our inception. To this end we will not do work competing with local business.
